5 Tips for Early Recovery from Nova Way Wellness Experts

Early recovery is both exciting and challenging. Our clinical team shares five evidence-based strategies that help patients at our Salinas treatment center maintain sobriety during those critical first months.

1. Build a routine. Structure reduces the uncertainty that can trigger relapse. At Nova Way Wellness, our residential program provides a daily schedule that patients can adapt when they return home.

2. Stay connected. Isolation is one of the biggest risk factors for relapse. Whether it's our alumni program, a local 12-Step group in Salinas, or trusted friends and family, staying connected to supportive people is essential.

3. Practice self-care. Physical health supports mental health. Regular exercise, nutritious meals, and adequate sleep form the foundation of sustained recovery.

4. Know your triggers. CBT and DBT skills learned during treatment at Nova Way Wellness help identify and manage triggers before they lead to relapse.

5. Ask for help early. If you feel yourself struggling, reach out before a crisis develops. Call our aftercare team at (831) 417-2491.

Understanding Dual Diagnosis Treatment at Nova Way Wellness

Nearly 50% of individuals with a substance use disorder also experience a co-occurring mental health condition. At Nova Way Wellness in Salinas, our dual diagnosis program treats both conditions simultaneously for better long-term outcomes.

Common co-occurring conditions we treat include depression, anxiety, PTSD, and bipolar disorder. When these conditions go untreated, they often fuel the cycle of addiction. Our integrated approach includes psychiatric evaluation, medication management, trauma-informed therapy, and specialized group sessions.

Nova Way Wellness's clinical team includes psychiatrists and licensed therapists who specialize in dual diagnosis care. If you or a loved one is struggling with both addiction and mental health challenges, call (831) 417-2491 for an assessment.

Connection between mental health and addiction explained

The Connection Between Mental Health and Addiction

Mental health and addiction are deeply interconnected. Research shows that individuals with mental health conditions are twice as likely to develop substance use disorders, and vice versa. Understanding this connection is essential for effective treatment.

At Nova Way Wellness, our Salinas-based clinical team sees this connection daily. Many patients who come to us for alcohol or opioid addiction also struggle with untreated depression, anxiety, or trauma. By addressing both issues together through our dual diagnosis program, patients achieve significantly better outcomes than treating either condition alone.

If you're dealing with both mental health challenges and substance use, know that you're not alone and integrated treatment is available at our facility. Call (831) 417-2491.
